Modified Atmosphere Packaging

During this procedure, the product is packed in modified atmosphere in order to retain its shape, freshness and colour. This means that the ambient air is extracted from the packaging and a protective gas added instead. Protective gas atmospheres mostly consist of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, oxygen or a mix of these gases.

Application

MAP is suitable for a large number of fresh meat and sausage produce as well as cheese, fish and poultry products. Vegetables and baked goods are also packed in modified atmosphere.

Benefits

The controlled addition of protective gas extends the product’s shelf life; this means that its delivery range can be substantially extended and new markets can be opened up. In addition, sensitive products are protected mechanically by the protective gas from damage. Other benefits are the appetising presentation and the easy removability.
